Old Roots, New Routes (The George Gorman Lecture 2021):

In August 2021, I delivered the George Gorman lecture to the national gathering of Quakers in Britain. In the lecture, I share some personal reflections, punctuated with contemplative pauses, exploring the two questions "Who are we?" and "Where are we going?" as a Quaker community in these uncertain times of global pandemics, social, political and economic turmoil and climate catastrophe.

Listening for Change

Listening for Change is a book that has been written to accompany the organisation coaching work that I do. It sets out the core principles of deep and generative listening, the inner qualities (attentiveness, understanding, curiousity and compassion), the inter-personal skills (preparation for difficult conversations and skillful listening and speaking) and the collective processes (including sensing, waiting and acting). Each chapter includes some theory and some practical exercises.

The Art of Commoning

In this essay, I explore the idea of an art of commoning, and suggest a framework for understanding this art, made up of six core principles: wake up to interconnection; take care of one another; know and love the land; cultivate a healing culture; collaborate, cooperate and co-create; and continue the conversation. I suggest that this framework could provide a helpful basis for reimagining what it means for us to be humans together.

Embracing Reality

Cooking Up Community

Cooking Up Community is a set of reflections, written during lockdown, in which I present a few different "gestures" that I hope will help build community in this time of crisis, that I hope will be recipes for peace and hope in our world today. Each reflection emerges out of a conversation with Jesus, a conversation unfolding within the particular context of a L'Arche community based in Bognor Regis.
