Listen For Change
When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.
(Dalai Lama)
Listen for Change is a process designed to support groups and communities to deepen their listening skills and to nurture inspired, life-giving conversations that lead to transformative action - action for better lives, better relationships and a better world.
It is composed of 9 parts, that includes:
- inner work (1. attention, 2. understanding, 3. curiosity and 4. compassion)
- interpersonal work (5. preparing for difficult conversations, and 6. listening and speaking skillfully)
- collective work (7. sensing, 8. waiting and 9. acting).
It draws on the wisdom of ancient spiritual traditions, the insights of psychology, restorative practices, nonviolent communication, Insight Dialogue, community development work inspired by Paulo Freire, and the learning of projects like the Harvard Negotiation Project, the Arbinger Institute and the Presencing Institute at MIT.
